Meadow saffrons (Colchicum L. s.s.) in Ukraine: monograph
Synopsis
This monograph is dedicated to the representatives of the genus Colchicum L.
sensu stricto in Ukraine. It compiles existing research on the history, taxonomy,
chorology, morphology, introduction, and phytosozology of this genus. The study presents
original research data on the biological characteristics and ontomorphogenesis of
Colchicum species in Ukraine's natural flora: C. ancyrense B. L. Burtt, C. autumnale L.,
C. fominii Bordz., and C. umbrosum Steven. Identification tables for these species in
various vegetative phases are provided. The natural habitats and population dynamics of
the genus in Ukraine are described, along with distribution maps. The monograph details
the characteristics of the genus’s development under cultivation and assesses the
feasibility of propagation and repatriation efforts. Recommendations are given for their
application in ornamental horticulture. An analysis of the conservation status of
Colchicum species in Ukraine is included.
Intended for introducers, biologists, plant cultivators, horticulture specialists,
educators, graduate students, and undergraduate students in biological and environmental
sciences.
